Hi, I’m Joy.

I am a certified Full-Spectrum doula with over 10 years of experience working with infants and alongside parents. My primary focus is on postpartum support, and I am extremely passionate about nurturing families as they adjust to their new roles. The postpartum period is truly a transformative and vulnerable time, and I believe that everyone is deserving of support. Advocacy for parents shouldn’t end at birth, and I strive to provide gentle, unbiased, and informed care to new and expecting families. There is no one-size-fits-all with pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period; your journey is uniquely yours, and I would love to support you and your family during this stage of your life.

My passion for supporting families is something I’ve held my whole life. Being an older sister of six younger siblings meant I was accustomed to changing diapers, juggling babies and toddlers, and supporting mothers at a young age.

During my career as a nanny, witnessing the lack of support postpartum mothers received became a recurring theme. So many people celebrated these women during pregnancy, only to distance themselves when the babies were born. The expectations were so high, and the mothers’ cups were often empty. Bearing witness to this really shaped my beliefs going forward as a professional. I found myself caring for the mothers just as much as I cared for their children, which led me to foster beautiful and lifelong relationships with these families.

Because of this, stepping into birthwork felt like a natural progression. Every mother whose hands I hold at midnight as she recites her birth story to me reminds me of why I do this. All of the laughter, the tears, the warmth. Caring for their children, watching them settle into their new roles, and the relief on parents’ faces after they get a full night’s rest is everything to me.

I believe the best self-care is caring for others.

Outside of being a doula, my personal life is filled with adventure and wonder. I’m an avid traveler, and I’ve recently become a certified scuba diver. I live in a beautiful old house in north Tacoma with my partner and dog, Onion. I spend most of my free time cooking delicious meals with local seasonal ingredients, reading weird books, gardening in the summer, rollerblading along the waterfront, and making wonky pottery. I am a firm believer in community, being a good neighbor, and at my core am an absolute nerd.
